Charges laid over four-hour stand-off in Canberra

A man has been charged over a four-hour stand-off with police in Spence in the ACT.

Three people were arrested and a rifle was seized after the siege on Friday morning.

Detectives attended the property on O’Neill Street with a search warrant but two men and a woman inside the apartment refused to come out.

Neighbours were warned to stay inside and negotiators were called in.

At 10:00am a police specialist response team entered the property and found three people in a bedroom.

All three were arrested.

A 25-year-old man from Casey has been charged with unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday.
