Whether it’s an awkward date, inappropriate comment or worse – sadly, many women have experienced being stuck in unsafe or uncomfortable situations on a night out.
There is one scheme designed to help, known as “Ask for Angela”.
It’s a discreet code that patrons can use to ask a worker for help – whether that’s calling a cab, police or escorting them to safety.
The campaign was launched in Australia in 2018, but not all venues use the safety measure and critics say that “a half-baked rollout can really create harm”.
So, should “Ask for Angela” be scrapped or made mandatory?
Sexual violence organisation Full Stop Australia believes more attention should be placed on comprehensive training, but other advocates believe the secret code should be rolled out in every pub, club and bar. What do you think?
