Time has named the “Architects of AI” as its person of the year for 2025, with the cover featuring the major brains behind the rise of artificial intelligence – including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and OpenAI’s Sam Altman.
The magazine says it chose the tech moguls – which also include Nvidia’s Jensen Huang and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei – as they are “delivering the age of thinking machines” which are “wowing and worrying humanity”.
Online, the controversial call has angered critics who are pointing out the irony of celebrating an industry which could potentially threaten the jobs of the people who selected it.
Some conservative commentators in the United States are also arguing slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was more deserving of the title.
