Shark attack victim seeks the jaws of apex predator again

In 2009, Australian Navy diver Paul De Gelder was attacked by a bull shark in Sydney Harbour.

He was in the middle of a navy counter-terrorism operation, swimming in murky harbour waters near Woolloomooloo when the shark attacked, latching onto his leg and arm in a deadly grip that lasted only about eight seconds.

While De Gelder survived the near-death experience, his right arm and leg couldn’t be saved.

Now he is seeking out the jaws of sharks again in a new documentary for the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, How to Survive A Shark Attack.

In an exclusive interview with 10 News+ Entertainment Editor Angela Bishop, the 47-year-old explains what ocean lovers should know when it comes to sharing our oceans with the apex predators.
