Selma Blair arrested after alleged assault of flight attendants

US actress Selma Blair’s lawyer has blamed missed medication after she allegedly punched a flight attendant and bit another during a violent meltdown on board.

TMZ reported that Blair also allegedly kicked a Port Authority officer when the plane landed in New York and allegedly attacked a nurse when she was transported to hospital.

Police took Blair, 54, into custody late on Sunday (local time) when the Delta Air Lines plane from Los Angeles was parked at the gate at New York’s John F Kennedy Airport.

Blair and one of the flight attendants were taken to hospital for evaluation, the Port Authority said.

Page Six reports that Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault. A judge set bail at $US20,ooo cash or a $US60,000 bond and she was released on Monday night (local time).

Blair had major roles in films including 1999’s Cruel Intentions, 2001’s Legally Blonde and 2004’s Hellboy.

In recent years, she has advocated for disability rights. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018.

Page Six said her lawyer blamed several missed doses of medication and a head injury, arguing the alleged attacks were due to “severe confusion” caused by the missed meds and a fall where she hit her head.

The lawyer claimed she missed multiple doses of a powerful medication used to manage serious neurological symptoms.

The FBI, which is responsible for investigating all assaults aboard aircraft, declined to release details.

“Yesterday, we were informed by our partners at Port Authority Police Department of a potential assault aboard a flight that arrived into JFK. As per long-standing Department of Justice policy, we do not comment on ongoing investigations,” Sydney Kleinmann, a spokesperson for the FBI NY, said.

Messages seeking comment from the state and federal prosecutors’ offices in New York, as well as Blair’s publicist, were also sent on Monday.

In a statement to several media outlets, a Blair representative said she had a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.

In 2016, Blair apologised for making statements she regretted on a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles, saying that she mixed alcohol with medication, which made her black out.
