Margot Robbie’s latest show-stopping designer gown on the Wuthering Heights promotional tour was inspired by the Victorian era’s obsession with hair.
The sheer dress was designed for the Australian actress by UK-based designer Dilara Findikoglu, with media reporting that braids of real hair dyed olive green were used to create the outer corset.
Robbie wore Findikoglu’s creation – which also featured exposed boning – to the London premiere of director Emerald Fennell’s gothic, steamy adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic 1847 novel.
She told Who What Wear on the red carpet that said she wouldn’t actually call it a dress.
“It’s more of a creation – it’s made out of hair.”
Robbie went on to explain that it was inspired by a bracelet she wore on her left wrist.
“This a replica of Charlotte Brontë’s bracelet which was, they suspect, woven out of [her sisters] Anne and Emily’s hair.
“It was a Victorian thing to make jewellery out of hair of loved ones.”
She and fellow Aussie co-star Jacob Elordi, who play lovers Catherine and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, have been on a whirlwind international promo blitz for the highly anticipated new film, with Robbie’s wardrobe creating much buzz among fashion followers and media.

Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie share a red-carpet moment at the LA premiere of Wuthering Heights.
As well as the Findikoglu gown, she has stepped out in creations by designers including Schiaparelli, Thom Browne and Chanel, with Elle noting that each is “reminiscent of the corseted yet flowing costumes she wears as Catherine in the film”.
Each has been enhanced by unique, exquisite accessories, with her latest look including archival brooches by luxury French jeweller Boucheron and bespoke earrings and ring by London jeweller-to-the-stars Jessica McCormack.
There has also been talk of a “showmance” between Robbie, 35, and Elordi, 28, with the latter having described their relationship as “a mutual obsession”.
Robbie said this week that they were fortunate to have worked on the “most amazing screenplay”.
“The chemistry between us as Cathy and Heathcliff … We were so set up for success, to be honest,” the Hollywood star told Extra.
“Like, we had the most amazing screenplay and we had the most incredible designers designing these shots and these sets and these costumes, and you have Emerald there who’s so attuned to what can make someone go and gasp and, you know, it’s like we were just given all the ingredients to do something amazing, and all we really needed to do was bring our best as well.”

Robbie also felt comfortable with Elordi when they filmed sex scenes together.
“I never felt like I needed to be careful with him and he, I think, he didn’t feel like he had to be careful with me,” she said.
“I think we quickly got to a place where it’s like try anything, do anything. You’re not going to, you know, hurt me.”
