Australian soccer hero Sam Kerr has ushered in the New Year as a married woman after saying ‘I do’ to long-time love Kristie Mewis on Wednesday.

The couple, who have a baby son named Jagger, returned to the Matildas star’s hometown of Perth for the celebration with 120 guests, including elite soccer players.

In a special moment that Mewis predicted would be “gut-wrenching” for her, Kerr walked down the aisle with their seven-month-old boy.

Media captured footage of Kerr wearing a buttoned black tuxedo, black bow tie, white flower boutonniere and her hair in a low ponytail.

She was seen arriving at the ceremony carrying a baby bottle.

Jagger was wearing a white-collared shirt, black slacks and socks.

Mewis, a US soccer player, shimmered in a white off-shoulder, long-sleeve sheer dress overlaying a corseted lace bodice and a floor-length veil.

The venue was reportedly a secluded private residence in the Swan Valley wine region, east of Perth, with guests transported there in minibuses from Crown Towers hotel on Wednesday afternoon.

Ahead of the wedding, Mewis revealed a special detail that Kerr would walk down the aisle with their seven-month old son.

“He is a little too young to have a role, but Sam is going to walk with him down the aisle which is very, very sweet,” Mewis said on her own podcast.

“That is going to be gut wrenching for me, I will sob when that happens.

“He is probably going to be wearing a little matching outfit with her, it’s going to be absolutely adorable.”

Kerr, who has captained the Matildas since 2019 and is a striker for English premier league club Chelsea, met American professional soccer player Mewis at a US National Women’s Soccer League tournament match.

In September, Kerr finally returned to the field after dealing with an ACL injury she sustained in January 2024.

Mewis previously revealed that teammates from the Matildas and the United States national team were among the guests.

“Talking to 120 people in one night is a lot — I’m stressing about not being able to give enough time to everyone,” she said earlier this month.

Kerr and Mewis announced their engagement in 2023 with a simple post on Instagram.

On the morning of the wedding, Kerr shared a photo of herself sipping from a mug.

The previous day, Mewis posted photos of her and Kerr dressed in white with the caption “tomorrow”.

Kerr also shared a photo in the gym, noting: “Last day I ever have to hear about the wedding shred.”

In May, Kerr and Mewis announced the birth of their son.

Kerr shared a photo of them with their newborn on Instagram, with the caption: “Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr”.

The Matildas also welcomed Jagger to the “Tillies fam” in a Facebook post that attracted thousands of likes and hundreds of comments from well-wishers.
