Russell Crowe and his ex-wife Danielle Spencer have shared the spotlight at a live show in Sydney headlined by the Oscar winner’s rock band Indoor Garden Party.

Spencer, who split from the Gladiator star more than 10 years ago but says the pair remain good friends, shared happy snaps on social media of her and Crowe together at the Enmore Theatre gig on Saturday.

“What a wonderful group of artists!” she wrote. “It was a fantastic night.”

Singer and actress Spencer was a guest performer at the show, alongside Australian artists Troy Cassar-Daley and Marcia Hines, American indie-rock musician Brake and Irish singer Lorraine O’Reilly.

Dressed in a sparkly black outfit and supported by black-clad dancers, she sang songs from her upcoming album, saying “it was great to get out there and do them live for the first time”. In a separate post, she shared a video clip of her performing her new song Hummingbird.

Several fans commented, praising Spencer’s performance and the fact that she and Crowe still support each other.

Crowe has long made and performed music alongside his acting career, and his relationship with some of the members of Indoor Garden Party go back around three decades.

The band released its most recent album, Prose and Cons, last year and toured in 2023-24, but the Enmore Theatre show was their only live performance this year.

“I’ve been playing and releasing music since 1982. It’s so intertwined in my life… it’s the same creative drive,” he recently told Triple J of dovetailing a music and acting career.

Crowe, 61, and Spencer, 56, were married for nine years and had two children together before separating in 2012. They officially divorced six years later.

In a recent interview, Spencer said she remained friends with the Gladiator star, but acknowledged that there had been times when it was difficult or tense.

“We started as a friendship working together on the movie The Crossing,” she said on the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About.

“We were friends for quite a while before we even got together. So the respect was kind of there, the friendship was there.

“To me it would just be ridiculous to end up completely estranged or enemies after that kind of connection and having two children together.”

Spencer also said she paid no attention to stories claiming friction between herself and actress Britney Theriot, Crowe’s partner for the past five years.

“I can’t change what people are going to write, so I just really don’t take it on board and I really hope that Russell’s partner does not take it on board,” Spencer, who also has a long-term partner (Adam Long), told the podcast.

Crowe, who is starring in the psychological thriller Nuremberg – in which he plays Adolf Hitler‘s second-in-command, Hermann Göring – last month hosed down ongoing rumours that he and Theriot have become engaged.

Crowe told The Joe Rogan Experience he didn’t want to “ruin” his “joyous and happy” life with Theriot.

“No … my life is joyous and happy, why ruin that with a wedding?” he said.

“We respect each other and wake up with a smile, and we are very happy.”
