He’s the Hollywood director with a famously big heart and knack for storytelling. Now his story has come to an end in truly horrific circumstances.
Rob Reiner and his wife Michele have been found stabbed to death in their home.
Compounding the tragedy, their 32-year-old son, Nick, has been charged with killing his parents. There are reports Nick Reiner fought with his parents in front of guests at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the night before they died.
A vocal democrat, Rob Reiner made no secret of his disapproval of US President Donald Trump, who has been criticised for his response to Reiner’s death. He claimed said Reiner died “reportedly due to anger he caused” the American public by opposing Trump’s presidency.
Reiner’s versatile body of work as a director speaks for itself. From camp cult classic (The Princess Bride), to quick-fire legal drama (A Few Good Men), to coming-of-age treasure (Stand By Me) and relatable rom-coms (When Harry Met Sally) he truly did it all.
He also tried his hand at acting, which certainly paid off: Reiner became a household name as Meathead in All In The Family and appeared as the wisecracking best friend to Tom Hanks’ Sam in Sleepless In Seattle.
