‘Dissolution of marriage’: Nicole Kidman files for divorce

Australian actress Nicole Kidman has reportedly taken the next step in ending her marriage, just a day after news broke that she and Keith Urban had separated.
Despite fans’ hopes that the megastar couple would reconcile, it seems that there’s no going back after 19 years together.
Celebrity news website TMZ reported on Wednesday morning (AEST) that Kidman, 58, had filed for divorce from her country rocker husband, 57.
Kidman filed the paperwork in Nashville, where the couple has lived since 2007, on Tuesday, according to the reports.
The Babygirl star cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce, according to TMZ. It said the “marital dissolution agreement” was signed by Kidman and Urban.
The agreement reportedly included a parenting plan, child support worksheet and a parenting seminar order.
It means Kidman and Urban have already worked out a custody agreement and child support. It also reportedly appears that they have agreed to take co-parenting classes.
TMZ cited sources who said Kidman had made the “abrupt” decision to make it official on Tuesday (local time), although it seems the couple had already spent time working out the details of their separation.
TMZ was told Kidman had wanted to save the marriage, “although by all accounts, Keith did not”.
“We also reported Keith and Nicole’s inner circle believe he has moved on with another woman,” the website said.
Kidman is reportedly seeking to be the “primary residential parent” for her and Urban’s two children, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
The children would spend 306 days a year with Kidman and 59 days with Urban, say reports. Any major decisions about them, such as health and education, would be made jointly.

Nicole Kidman has officially filed for divorce from Keith Urban.
TMZ said Urban and Kidman had waived spousal and child support. There is, however, a clause that said Urban had prepaid “child support obligations.”
They each will retain their own assets, which suggested there was a prenup, the website said. The former couple have a significant property portfolio spanning Australia and the US.
It was revealed on Tuesday (AEST) Kidman and Urban had been living apart since June.
In June, Kidman shared a photo of herself cuddled up to Urban on Instagram to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
Four-time Grammy winner Urban had already moved out of the couple’s Nashville home, according to the reports, amid claims Kidman was desperate to save the relationship.
“She didn’t want this,” another source told People magazine.
“She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
Another insider told the magazine the news might be a shock to Hollywood, but those in the pair’s inner circle wouldn’t be surprised.
“People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable,” the source said.
“They’ve been living separately for a while now.”
Urban’s last post on his Instagram was in February 2024. On Tuesday, it began filling with messages from followers pleading with him to save his marriage.
Kidman last posted on her Instagram a week ago, when she attended the Nashville Film Festival.
It isn’t the first time the pair have separated. They spent time apart just months after they married when Urban, a recovering alcoholic and drug user, fell off the wagon.
Eyebrows were also raised in July when an online interview with an Adelaide radio show ended abruptly after Urban was asked how he felt about his wife’s intimate scenes with other men in her movies.
It’s unclear whether Urban or his team ended the call or if the line dropped out because of a technical issue.
In January, Urban thanked Kidman — affectionately calling her “Nicole Mary” — while being inducted into the Roll of Renown at the Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth.
Kidman was unable to watch him accept the Australian country music honour because she was filming in Nashville and Germany, he said.
“I want to thank our girls, Sunday and Faith,” Urban said during his acceptance speech.
“I couldn’t be here without the three of them and their love.”
Kidman has just wrapped the Practical Magic sequel in Britain, and is set to star in Amazon series Scarpetta alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as HBO series The Last Anniversary.
The Babygirl actor has reportedly applied for Portuguese residency.
She and Urban married in June 2006, after meeting at the G’Day USA gala in January 2005.
Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. She and the Top Gun actor share two adopted children, daughter Bella, 32, and son Connor, 30.
