‘Missing middle’: The students our education system too often overlooks

A whopping one in three Australian students have failed to meet numeracy and literacy benchmarks according to recent NAPLAN results, sparking concern from both parents and educators.
At the same time experts have identified a group called the missing middle.
These are children who aren’t at the top or the bottom of their class, and professionals believe this may be why they’re slipping through the cracks.
Attention and resources tend to go to students struggling the most, with those in between potentially getting forgotten.
Now parents, who want to support their children’s education, are hiring tutors to help boost their results, at a big expense.
