Good or bad? The chia seed challenge taking over social media

The “chia seed challenge” is the latest gut health trend circulating on social media – but is it actually good for you?

Influencers are mixing the superfood with warm water, sculling it on an empty stomach and bragging about apparent benefits, from better skin to weight loss.

Foodwatch CEO and dietitian Jemma O’Hanlon quashes the idea that a singular product can be a “miracle cure” and has a warning for anyone looking for health tips on social media.

“All of these trends tend to involve a single food or a single nutrient, but what we know in terms of the really strong signs around health and wellbeing – it’s around the eating pattern over weeks, months, years, and it’s the whole diet not just a single nutrient,” she says.

At the end of the day, the advice is if something looks enticing, do your homework first.
