Australians could soon travel without passports
The Australian government is reportedly discussing a trial of passport-less travel with New Zealand.
The proposal won an internal brainstorming competition conducted by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Fairfax Media reported exclusively on Thursday.

Traveller information would be stored on computer servers rather than printed on paper, if the proposal were adopted.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop predicted the idea would become popular across the world, but acknowledged there would be security concerns.
“We think it will go global,” the Minister told Fairfax.
A primary benefit would be no more lost passports.
Almost 39,000 of these travel documents were registered as lost or stolen last financial year, Fairfax reported.
