While some stores will be open throughout the Easter, there’s no avoiding the annual rush to gather your long weekend supplies.
Whether it’s ingredients for a family get-together, those last-minute Easter eggs or just some pantry essentials, you’ll need to be aware of the changing trading hours over the break.
Supermarkets won’t be closed the entire long weekend, but there might be a day or two when you won’t be able to replenish supplies.
Read on for TND’s guide to major supermarket trading hours over this year’s Easter long weekend.
And if a store near you is closed when you’re in a pinch this weekend, look up your local service station’s opening hours in case they have what you need.
Woolworths
Good Friday (April 3)
- Closed nationwide, except for select stores in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia and some airport locations.
Easter Saturday (April 4)
- Most stores open, although some Metro locations may be closed.
Easter Sunday (April 5)
- NSW & ACT: Most stores closed
- VIC, QLD, WA: Most of stores open
- SA: Most stores closed
- NT & TAS: Varies by location
Easter Monday (April 6)
- All stores open in Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, WA, NSW and the ACT.
- Some stores open in South Australia and Northern Territory.

Good Friday (April 3)
- All Coles supermarkets will be closed nationwide.
Easter Saturday (April 4)
- Stores open nationwide, with some operating reduced hours.
Easter Sunday (April 5)
- NSW: All stores closed
- QLD, VIC, WA: Most stores open (reduced hours may apply)
- SA: Most stores closed
- ACT, NT, TAS: Most storesy open
Easter Monday (April 6)
- Open in Tasmania, the ACT, NT, WA, Queensland, Victoria and NSW. Trading hours may be reduced.
- Closed in South Australia, except for select stores.

- Closed nationwide.
Easter Saturday (April 4)
- Open nationwide.
Easter Sunday (April 5)
- Open in Victoria and Western Australia.

- Open in NSW, the ACT, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.
- Varies in South Australia.
ALDI urges customers to check with their local store if they are unsure, as opening times can differ from store to store, and state to state.
IGA
As stores are independently owned, some will trade as normal, some will be closed and others will have reduced hours over Easter.
IGA reports that 99 stores will be open nationwide on Good Friday.
