So, you’re counting down the final hours of 2025 when you realise you’ve run out of milk and beer.
Don’t fret. The New Daily has compiled this helpful list of New Year’s trading hours for supermarkets and other stores around the country.
Hopefully it helps make managing the lazy, hazy holiday days a bit easier as we slide into 2026.
It’s important to note that many shopping centres and retailers will have special opening hours.
When in doubt, check the individual retailers’ websites for store-specific trading details.
Woolworths
Opening hours for Woolworths supermarkets will vary across the country.

Coles supermarkets are open across the country on New Year’s Day, except SA where it depends on location.

New Year’s Day: OPEN, with some exceptions in SA and WA. Adelaide’s Rundle Mall store is OPEN (11am to 5pm). Other Metropolitan Adelaide stores are CLOSED. Regional SA stores are OPEN (9am to 5pm or 6pm). WA stores are OPEN with standard hours. Northam store will be CLOSED. The Kalgoorlie store (8am to 3pm) and Esperance store (10am to 4pm) are OPEN.

New Year’s Day: OPEN, with exceptions in SA, NSW and Vic. Adelaide’s Centrepoint store is OPEN (11am to 5pm). All other SA stores are CLOSED. In NSW, the Wollongong and Charlestown stores are CLOSED. Victoria’s Mildura store will be CLOSED. WA stores OPEN at 11am.
