Kmart, Target recall popular blender due to injury fears

Discount retailers Kmart and Target have pulled a popular blender from their shelves after the discovery of a risk of serious injuries or even death to users.
The rechargeable portable blender was available in four colours and sold at Kmart and Target nationwide and online from January 23 until September 3.
A recall notice was issued this week through the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission amid fears of a dangerous fault.
“If the base of the product is immersed in water, it may self-activate without pressing the on/off button,” Thursday’s recall notice said.
“[There is a] risk of serious injury, including laceration from the exposed blades, if the product self-activates. Injuries have occurred.”

The notice urged anyone who has one of the affected to stop using it immediately and “place away from any water”.
Consumers are urged to return the product to where it was bought for a full refund.
“Contact the place of purchase if you are unable to return the product or have sold or gifted it to another person,” the notice said.
